Ayer tuvo lugar la ceremonia de apertura de la PING Junior Solheim Cup en la Zagaleta. La competición que enfrenta a los equipos de Europa y Estados Unidos Sub 18 es la telonera de la Solheim Cup.

 

Nuestro alcalde, José Antonio Mena, participó en la ceremonia de apertura, destacando la importancia de que esta competición se juegue en Benahavís, convirtiéndo al municipio en el epicentro del golf mundial durante los días de celebración. Además de nuestro edil, participaron en la inauguración John Solheim, Presidente de PING, Jacobo Celestino, CEO de La Zagaleta; Marta Figueras-Dotti, Presidenta del LET y José María Arrabal, Secretario General para el Deporte de la Junta de Andalucía. También destaca la asistencia de Manuel Cardeña, Presidente de la Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental; Gonzaga Escauriaza, Presidente de la Real Federación Española de Golf; Pablo Mansilla, Presidente de la Real Federación Andaluza de Golf


De entre las veinticuatro jóvenes promesas del golf, el equipo europeo cuenta con cuatro españolas, poniendo de manifiesto la enorme pujanza de la cantera nacional de golf. Una ceremonia de apertura vibrante, en el Old Course de la La Zagaleta, previa a una competición intensa que se desarrollará durante hoy y mañana. El equipo europeo sale con ganas de revalidar su victoria del pasado año en el campo estadounidense e incrementar el número de éxitos en un balance por el momento desequilibrado: siete triunfos estadounidenses, un empate y tres victorias europeas.

⛳ OPENING OF THE PING JUNIOR SOLHEIM CUP


Yesterday, the opening ceremony of the PING Junior Solheim Cup took place at La Zagaleta. This competition, which pits the European and US Under 18 teams against each other, serves as the prelude to the Solheim Cup.

 

Our Mayor, José Antonio Mena, actively participated in the opening ceremony, emphasizing the significance of hosting this competition in Benahavís, which now positions our municipality as the epicenter of world golf during these festive days. Alongside our mayor, notable figures such as John Solheim, President of PING; Jacobo Celestino, CEO of La Zagaleta; Marta Figueras-Dotti, President of the LET; and José María Arrabal, Secretary General for Sport of the Junta de Andalucía, also took part in the inaugural event. Additionally, we had the pleasure of hosting Manuel Cardeña, President of the Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental; Gonzaga Escauriaza, President of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation; and Pablo Mansilla, President of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation.


Among the twenty-four promising young golfers, the European team includes four Spaniards, showcasing the impressive strength of our national golf academy. The vibrant opening ceremony unfolded at the Old Course of La Zagaleta, setting the stage for an intense competition scheduled for today and tomorrow. The European team is eager to defend its victory from last year on American soil and aims to tip the scales in their favor. Currently, the record stands at seven American victories, one draw, and three European victories.
